Nottingham-based business LAC Conveyors & Automation has been awarded top safety accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace.
Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading third-party accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK including SMEs and FTSE 100 companies.
Employing 100 people, LAC Conveyors & Automation is principally involved in the Industrial Engineering sector, specialising in the logistics and food industries, with a £22 million turnover. LAC’s recent clients have included major logistics industry players Hermes and Amazon.
The company’s application for SafeContractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business. LAC offering includes material handling and warehouse solutions from conveyor systems, robot palletising, pick and place to autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). SafeContractor accreditation will enhance the company’s ability to win new contracts, and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.
Gemma Archibald, Director of Alcumus SafeContractor said: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.”
“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that LAC has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector. SafeContractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process.”
Chris Unwin, CEO, expressed his excitement of achieving the accreditation for another year: “We’re really proud that we can show the world we’re a business with a culture that takes the health and safety of our staff as a priority issue and not something that can be ignored. The team have done a fantastic job of making sure we meet the requirements and maintaining this over the last year. We’re excited to continue to show our current and potential customers that we’re an organisation you can trust.”
LAC Conveyors & Automation are also SafePQQ certified meaning they don’t just take health and safety seriously, but go they above and beyond. SafePQQ is an extension to SafeContractor which includes common questions within PAS91, a standardised pre-qualification questionnaire. This ensures greater visibility of supply chain compliance and demonstrates the business is safe, ethical and sustainable for employees and contractors.
