LAC Conveyors have recently won another contract to supply conveyors to one of the UK's major label applicator machinery suppliers.
Manufacturing conveyors for the printing and labeling industry requires years of experience to ensure product compatibility and consistent print and label application. The important issues to consider are as follows:
Size, shape and weight of product
Placement of print of label
Speed of movement
Ensuring the consistent and accurate placement of product past the print/label head
loading and unloading of product
Linking of controls between conveyor and print/label head
The most common conveyor type used for this application is a belt conveyor with specially designed and often adjustable side guides. Some applications even require the use of vacuum beneath the conveyor to either hold the product firmly in place or to hold it down and flat. It is important to keep the product on a firm base and for this reason we often use MDF skids, where the application allows, as we can ensure these are flat, consistent and true. Triggering of the print/label head is also critical, either using an electronic or mechanical trigger can be used but both these need careful consideration on placement and mounting....

Used for the safe handling of small loose items corrugated side wall conveyor belts are an important part of L.A.C. conveyors equipment portfolio. This type of belt is used for one of two reasons. Firstly if very small items or components are being transported the side wall keep the product within the confines of the belt. Thus preventio the ingress of product into the body of the conveyor. Secondly if the product being conveyed is delicate for example soft skin tomatoes it prevents product damage as the side guides is moving at the same speed as the belt and product thus preventing scuffing.
The disadvantage of this type of conveyor is that the head and tail rollers needed to get the belt around can be excessive, for example a 80mm tall side wall requires a 250mm dia drum. Thus transferring the product can be difficult.

LAC have just won an order to supply a heavy duty plastic modular belt conveyor for handling various size pallets.
The application required a conveyor to handle pallets that varied in size from 300 square up to 1200mm square and weighing in excess of 1000kg. The conveyor needed to handle pallets being loaded via both fork truck and pallet truck and so meant a very special and extremely robust construction type to handle the extreme loads exerted by the pallet truck wheels. The conveyor system also needed to transfer the pallets through 90 degrees at the end of the travel while maintaining their orientation.
Because of the variety of size and configuration of the pallets being handled this application was not possible using conventional roller conveyor, the pallets getting caught in the gaps. The advantage modular belt gave was the robust construction together with the ease of handling the smallest to the largest loads with equal ease.
The 90 degree turn was completed using a 1500mm square conveyor rotated round one of the corners. This had the advantage of reducing the number of conveyors required and also keeping the orientation the same through the bend....

LAC Conveyors has recently won the order to supply a multi level incline conveyor system for a large UK high street retailer.
The system, largely based on LAC’s successful range of Tracker Conveyors, was designed to be implemented within a new retail outlet. The new conveyor system, which has now been installed, already proves to be more cost-effective than the original method whilst increasing productivity and allowing for greater flexibility within the workforce.
The control system required was a simple variable speed unit wired to photo electric sensors at each end of the conveyor system to control product flow.
LAC Conveyors continues to manufacture all conveyors to the highest possible standards providing affordable solutions to simple and complex transfer needs.
