LAC conveyors have just won an order from a major UK producer of seeds to join two production processes together, reduce manual handling and reduce product spillage and waste.

 

Seeds are dried and cleaned in one processes before being transferred to the bulk storage area, prior to LAC’s solution these seeds were moved via an old conveyor and bagging station.  The new swan conveyor had to be capable of containing the seeds on the belt and transporting them with no damage and minimal waste.

 

The solution was one of our Tracker range of PU (polyurethane) belt conveyors, 8m long horizontal and 2m incline using a food grade PU belt complete with integral corrugated side walls and flights.  The integral corrugated side walls which are attached to the belt ensure that the product stays on the belt.  This ensures no damage occurring due to rubbing against stationary side guides and protects the conveyor from ingress of the seeds into the conveyor workings.

L.A.C. conveyors are currently looking at supplying a number of swan neck belt conveyors for handling loose materials into cardboard boxes. It is important when designing swan neck belt conveyors to ensure that the conveyor is designed to run with very little belt tension. Increasing the belt tension to get the required amount of drive means that the belt wants to pull ' across corners', this results in increased belt wear and poor tracking. The answer is to always utilize a lagged large diameter conveyor drive drum. This will allow a large belt pull to be transmitted with out excessive belt conveyor tension. An alternative is to use a special type of conveyor belt, with  a toothed back. this again allows large amounts of drive to be transmitted to the conveyor belt without adding excessive tension. The third option, product allowing is to attempt to utilize a plastic modular belt conveyor. These have great lateral stiffness and as they are driven via sprockets they have huge amounts of conveyor drive.

We are due to launch our new brochure in June 09, it has been designed for the attention of the packaging industry. The brochure will be highlighting our range of ‘Feed and Discharge’ conveying systems which encompasses or Stainless Steel conveyors, Mild Steel conveyors and Plastic system conveyors. We anticipate distribution will reach in the region of fifteen hundred packaging companies.

UK based pallet conveyor manufacturer, LAC Conveyors, opened it's doors last week to a number of specially selected customers. On display was a sizeable pallet conveyor system built to exacting specifications for handling a steel frame pallet base which is to be stacked by a 6 axis robot. This system not only has to position the pallet base to within 1mm tolerance, it also has to cope with a product stack that overhangs the edges of the conveyor by approximately 250 mm each side. Specially designed side guides ensure that the pallet base remains positioned within the tolerances, even when being lifted and transferred on the 90 degree chain transfers.  The transfers are able to move the pallet to other conveyor lanes, even transferring the pallet across the drive side of the system, without any tipping or rocking thanks to the unique additional supports provided within the system. LAC Conveyors has just supplied a West End theatre production company for a bespoke conveyor to allow actors and actresses to run on stage while appearing stationary.

 

The conveyor is a special and unique conveyor measuring 10 metres by 1.5 metres and allows the users to run on the conveyor in the same way as a running machine would operate at your local gym. The mild steel heavy duty construction can handle all the related forces for this type of application and features variable speed control.

 Good afternoon to all you conveyor anoraks. I would suggest you find something a little more exciting to do rather than read the following, however if you are sad and have no friends, read on.  Many of the pallet conveyors we supply are use in palletising systems and are loaded via six axis robot or cartesian robots. An important factor when specifying a conveyor for this type of application is to ensure the conveyor is achieving the positional accuracy for pallet location required by the robot. In most instances if the conveyor is simply stacking boxes then an accuracy of approx 5mm is probably sufficient. However we are currently working on a system where the robot is loading steel , nestable jigs onto the conveyor. This requires an accuracy of approx 1mm. To achieve this we have run a 100mm x 50mm rolled steel channel below the conveyors side frames to ensure there is no  'sag'  between the supports. LAC Conveyors announces the introduction of a full range of pallet conveyor accessories to complement the existing range.

Turntables, transfers (single and double width) and pallet truck zones can be added to any of our pallet conveyor systems.  Pallet magazines for dispensing pallets at the start of a system or for re-stacking empty pallets at the end of the system are also available.

Special build lifts are also available for situations where standard equipment is unsuitable.

In addition to the above devices for handling full load items, we also offer alternative solutions for occasions where empty pallets need to be moved from one line to another.  In these circumstances, standard pallet conveyor accessories are often over-specified and therefore not cost effective.
